Montgomery County Fire/EMS will be accepting applications for Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic. Applications will be accepted through February 3, 2012. Salary after one year with state training incentive will be $37,692.64 FF/EMT and $45,234.64 FF/Paramedic. Benefits include CERS retirement, Social Security, single paid health insurance, uniform allowance, fitness membership, paid vacation and sick leave. Applications may be obtained on the next page or at our Administrative Offices located at 805 Indian Mound Drive, Mount Sterling KY. Applications will be available Monday through Friday 8am-4pm.
All applicants must be EMT or Paramedic certified. Montgomery County Fire/EMS is an equal opportunity employer.

Montgomery County Fire/EMS hosted a PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) class sponsored by AirMethods Kentucky.  Personnel from Montgomery County Fire/EMS and surrounding counties received certifications in Advanced and Basic levels.

Chief Larry Potter and Local 4805 President Tom Smith present a check in the amount of $1864.75 to a representative of the Muscular Distrophy Association following recent collection efforts by the firefighters of Montgomery County Fire/EMS.  A boot drive was recently held at the local Wal Mart store which enabled the public to donate to this worthy cause.

Montgomery Co. Professional Firefighter’s Association is pleased to announce we will be hosting
 
IAFF: Emergency Response to Chemical Process Industries
 
This is an eight hour training program developed by first responders to address key issues related to their health and safety at chemical process industry incidents. The overall goal of the program is to train first responders to effectively respond to incidents involving the chemical process industry and to reduce responder injury and death.
 
The instructors for this course are Deputy Chief Nicholas Del Re (FDNY) and Lt. Ignacio Ayala (Wichita, KS FD). These premiere instructors travel throughout the country teaching various topics for the IAFF Hazmat/WMD programs. Each instructor brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, dedication, and experience with them.

Congratulations to Captain Larry Griffin of Montgomery County Fire and EMS who was the winner of the KBEMS Recertify Early Contest. Larry submitted his application back on August 30 and was randomly selected from all entries who submitted prior to September 28. His effort netted him a brand new Ipad 2.

Montgomery County Fire/EMS has been participating in the Montgomery County Healthy Communities coalition.  The group focuses on improving the lives and health of the people of Montgomery County.  The coalition has members from many different disciplines that meets quarterly.   Participation in the coalition also allows for valuable networking between local agencies.


 
Fire station Groundbreaking
Groundbreaking was held October 11th for the new City of Mount Sterling fire station.  Congressman Ben Chandler and local officals were on hand for the ceremonies.  The station will be located on East High Street at the site of the old Ken's Market.  The new station will replace the one damaged by fire several years ago.  Mount Sterling was one of only 119 cities in the United States to receive a fire station construction grant.  Louisville was the only other Kentucky community to receive the grant.

Fire Prevention Week

Members of Montgomery County Fire/EMS have spent the week canvassing local schools and daycare centers spreading the word of fire prevention.
